Kinect’s NBA Baller Beats Uses Real Basketball For Gameplay

With the advent of the Wii, the Kinect and Playstation Move, game developers have been working on ways to create new and unique gameplay techniques because, as we all know, controllers are for squares. But now that we've all shot guns, controlled robots, used the force, and danced with Han Solo, what else is left to do? If you just wishfully said "dance with a basketball," then congratulations! Majesco Entertainment will be making your dreams come true soon.

With the advent of the Wii, the Kinect and Playstation Move, game developers have been working on ways to create new and unique gameplay techniques because, as we all know, controllers are for squares. But now that we’ve all shot guns, controlled robots, used the force, and danced with Han Solo, what else is left to do? If you just wishfully said “dance with a basketball,” then congratulations! Majesco Entertainment will be making your dreams come true soon.

Unveiled at E3, NBA Baller Beats gives players the opportunity to play the game with a real basketball. Regardless of where your gaming system is set up (including a carpeted area), the use of the ball is necessary for the game. The best way to describe the experience would be like playing Dance Dance Revolution while dribbling a basketball.

If you don’t believe me, then check out the video below, compiled of footage taken at the E3 demonstration of the game. From what we can see, gamers are expected to keep the beat of the music with the dribbling of the ball, while switching hands and performing other stunts.

To be honest, the game looks pretty nifty. It’s kind of a whacky idea, but games like DJ Hero were also a bit out there and proved to be a good time. The idea of using an actual ball with the Kinect, while definitely new and unusual, may present as many problems as well as innovations. Only time will tell how NBA Baller Beats will play out.

Check after the jump for the gameplay video, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for any more news on NBA Baller Beats. Let us know how you feel about the inclusion of a basketball into your everyday video game regiment in the comments below!

NBA Baller Beats is being developed exclusively for Kinect, and will most-likely release this fall.
