Deadline is reporting that acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been offered a major role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Plutarch Heavensbee is the role in question and for those unfamiliar with the second novel in the bestselling trilogy, Heavensbee is the gamemaker who replaces Seneca Crane. It’s a decent sized role and one that will be even bigger in the third film, Mockingjay.
Though an offer has been put out to him, I doubt he’ll sign on. Hoffman doesn’t seem like the type of actor to join a blockbuster franchise, especially in a supporting role. Granted, he did do Mission: Impossible 3 but looking at his recent work, I can’t see him hopping on board here, despite what would probably be a very large salary.
As mentioned before, this hasn’t been confirmed and as of now, only an offer has been made. Hoffman has yet to accept.
Either way, we’ll let you know what happens. In the meantime though, let us know in the comments who you would like to see play Heavensbee.
Personally, I’d love to see Gary Oldman or Bill Nighy in the role, what about you?
