Disney Will Shoot Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 And 6 Back To Back

As Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is well into production, Disney is already looking towards the future. Apparently, not only are Disney planning on doing a fifth and sixth instalment, but they've also told the cast, according to HitFlix, to "set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot Pirates 5 and Pirates 6,” meaning they're going to be shooting back to back.

As Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is well into production, Disney is already looking towards the future. Apparently, not only are Disney planning on doing a fifth and sixth instalment, but they’ve also told the cast, according to HitFlix, to “set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot Pirates 5 and Pirates 6,” meaning they’re going to be shooting back to back.

Pirates 2 and 3 were also shot back to back so it could make sense to do the same here. Depp, who will undoubtedly be in the fifth and sixth instalments, has quite a busy schedule coming up. He’s planning to shoot both Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger in 2011. So who knows how and when this will all actually work out.

There’s no more news on the fifth and sixth films regarding directors or returning casts, but it looks like Disney is intent on getting them made. I do like the Pirates movies, although number 3 was a bit of a let down. The thing I’m wondering is, how long can they extend this series. Six films is a lot, would they think of doing anymore after that? Would fans even still be interested by the time the sixth one rolls around? I guess we’ll know more when the fourth one hits theatres this year on Memorial Day weekend.

Check out the plot synopsis for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides below.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise.  When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more:  Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.  In theaters Memorial Day weekend, 2011.
