Eurweb is reporting that despite sequel talks taking place, star Will Smith isn’t too keen on making I Am Legend 2. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. announced that a deal was close to being made for a sequel to Francis Lawrence‘s post-apocalyptic drama. The studio had hoped to have Will Smith return but according to the actor himself, he doesn’t seem too excited about signing on.

“Producers are working on it,” Smith said. “I’m not actually working on it. If it’s great, I’m into it.” When asked if he would reconsider, Smith said, “Probably not.”

“I don’t want to be the sequel guy,” he recently said. “I figure I’ve got about six or seven more years where I can run and jump a little bit and then I’m going butt and gut for the rest of my career. Butt and gut,” he continued.

I don’t want to spoil anything but if you’ve seen I Am Legend, you’ll know what I mean when I say that it would be tough to make a sequel, especially if they want to include Smith in it. Perhaps it’s for the best that he doesn’t want to return? That being said, last we heard, the writers had found a way to include his character, though I’m still not sure how.

Either way, whether Smith returns or not, I did enjoy the original film and a sequel could be interesting, granted it works out. I really have no idea what direction they could take it in, but if they figure something out, then count me in.
