Months after the controversy that surrounded the announcement of Michael Bay’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it looks like the film will be put on a long hiatus.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, simply titled Ninja Turtles, is being pushed from December 2013 to May 2014. A source close to the production of the film says the script is the problem. The preproduction staff has also been laid off and the work delay is said to be “indefinite.” A representative from Paramount would not leave a comment.
This isn’t the first time this year that Paramount Pictures has delayed a film’s release date because of its script. G.I. Joe: Retaliation and World War Z were both delayed from being released this year and are now scheduled for 2013.
The Ninja Turtles reboot will be produced by Bay’s Platinum Dunes and directed by Jonathan Liebsman (Wrath of the Titans). The script is being handled by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, screenwriters for last year’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
