Crosby And Penguins Are High In All-Star Voting

The second update on all-star voting just came out and the only player to achieve over 300,000 votes thus far is the Penguins centre and this season’s best player so far, Sidney Crosby. Crosby has 24 goals and 24 assists, totalling 48 points. If those numbers were projected over an 82 game season they would amount to over 65 goals and over 65 assists, which adds up to over 130 total points. The last season a player scored over 130 points was the 1995-1996 season, where Lemieux and Jagr both achieved that mark totalling 161 and 149 points respectively. Since the lockout Joe Thornton was the closest to 130 points with 125 points in the 2005-2006 season.

Crosby is not the only Penguins pulling in the votes. The player in second in voting is Penguin defenseman Kris Letang. Although Letang had over 100,000 less votes than Crosby he is the only other skater to surpass 200,000 votes. The final 200,000 vote getter is Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens. Price is 40,000 votes above Sergi Bobrovsky, who is only 17,000 above Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury is the third place vote getter amongst all goalies.

Along with Crosby, Letang, and Fleury forward Evgeni Malkin is fifth in forward voting with almost 160,000 votes. Although he is only 9,000 away from Alexander Ovechkin, the Penguins forward still needs over 30,000 votes to catch Steven Stamkos as the third player to make the event due to fan voting.

Although these four players are the only Penguins near the top of their positions there are other Penguins that have earned a substantial amount of votes.

Forwards:

Maxime Talbot, 22,008 votes
Chris Kunitz, 10,707 votes
Pascal Dupuis, 6,219 votes

Defence:

Paul Martin, 79,762 votes
Brooks Orpik, 27,775 votes
Alex Goligoski, 7,115 votes
