Spelunky Makes Its Long Awaited XBLA Debut July 4th

It’s hard to believe that it’s finally here. After over a year of waiting, Spelunky is finally ready to debut on XBLA. The game initially debuted as a freeware PC game back in 2008 (you can still play this version after downloading it here) and quickly became a cult classic among fans of indie games.

It’s hard to believe that it’s finally here. After over a year of waiting, Spelunky is finally ready to debut on XBLA. The game initially debuted as a freeware PC game back in 2008 (you can still play this version after downloading it here) and quickly became a cult classic among fans of indie games.

The action/platformer revolves around exploring a series of randomly generated dungeons while trying to gather as much loot as you can carry while trying not to die horribly. The new version gives us a fresh new look, a completely redone soundtrack, four player multiplayer as well a few more hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

To put it simply, Spelunky is absolutely fantastic, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the updated version when it hits XBLA on July 4th for 1200 Microsoft Points. And hey, if I time it right, I can pretend the fireworks are people celebrating that I finally beat a level.
