Michael Douglas opens up on his return to the MCU in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

All while dropping a curious tease about what's in store.

The wait between Marvel movies is a supremely interesting period; the anticipation of seeing the next step in the storyline can make just three months seem like a small eternity, and before you know it, you’re a week and a half away from one of the most pivotal films in the current arc, as is currently the case with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

With Quantumania comes the entire Ant-Man family, including Scott Lang, Hope van Dyne, a now-grown Cassie Lang, and resident superhero grandparents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, who will be making their first marked return to the franchise since 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, barring the small cameos the pair had in Avengers: Endgame.

For Michael Douglas, the Academy Award-winning talent behind Hank Pym, stepping onto the Quantumania set was like coming home to a family, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Quantumania premiere yesterday.

Douglas noted the “comfort factor” of being familiar with co-stars such as Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as director Peyton Reed, who also directed the previous two Ant-Man films.

Curiously, however, when asked if he would return for a fourth Ant-Man film, Douglas said yes, but with the stipulation that his character would die in said film. This could perhaps be interpreted as a minor Quantumania spoiler, as dying in a hypothetical fourth film may suggest that his character survives the events of Quantumania, and with Hank being the most logical choice for the film’s major death alongside Scott, perhaps we should be fearing for the titular Avenger more than we already are.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will release to theaters on Feb. 17.
