One half of the world is currently advocating Hogwarts Legacy while the other half tries to boycott it, but amidst the maelstrom of controversy that afflicts everything that has to do with the Wizarding World these days, a few players are realizing something off-putting about the game’s character creator.
The joy of playing an RPG game is the ability to make your own character and customize their appearance in a number of different ways, and in the case of fantasy worlds, you could even choose your race. Harry Potter, unfortunately, doesn’t host a whole lot of unintelligent non-humans, but still, gamers might go in expecting more customization choices than what they’re getting in the early access version.
According to folks on Reddit, Hogwarts Legacy will give you the opportunity to alter your skin color, but the lightest tone still falls short of properly embodying paler individuals.
Apparently, if you have very fair skin and want the game avatar to imitate you, the best you can get is three shades darker than that.
Not that it’s such a huge issue to begin with, but it’s ironic to think that a game set in Britain fails to incorporate the most prominent skin tone of that region altogether.
I mean, how are you supposed to create the perfect copy of Draco Malfoy now? Your father will hear about this.
This should be an easy enough fix for Avalanche in the first update, though it must be noted that for all the flak the game dev is currently receiving for the obvious elephant in the room, Hogwarts Legacy gives persons of color an impressively wide range of options to make characters that look like them.
