Eagle-eyed ‘The Last of Us’ fan spots camera crew gatecrashing a scene in episode six

Whoops!

Many are calling The Last of Us something of a masterpiece, and rightfully so – it’s managed to captivate an ever-growing audience and continues to break our hearts week after week, keeping us coming back for repeated helpings of emotional trauma.

Still, it isn’t perfect – and an eagle-eyed fan over on The Last of Us subreddit has spotted something of a gaffe early on in episode six, “Kin”. In a very wide, overhead shot of Ellie and Joel crossing a bridge in the snow-coated state of Wyoming, we see a few silhouettes that look like they don’t belong:

While the u/ShadowRaptor89’s thread was removed by moderators for veering away from the subreddit’s episode discussion megathread, it’s very clear that there are people lurking in the shot that shouldn’t be.

Apologists may argue that the silhouettes we see in the periphery of this shot could be the residents of Wyoming that eventually ambush our journeying duo, but seeing as Joel and Ellie are crossing the bridge from left to right, we somehow doubt that’s the case. With Joel being the hardened survivor he is, surely he would have spotted them? They’re not exactly subtle.

Gaffes aside, The Last of Us episode six still managed to shatter our hearts with its devastating cliffhanger of a conclusion, highlighted by the reintroduction of Depeche Mode in a completely different context.

Fans of the video games may have also gotten giddy about all of the different The Last of Us Part II easter eggs that featured in this week’s episode, including a potentially pivotal character appearing in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment

The Last of Us will be back on Sunday with a brand new episode on HBO Max.
