Dive further into ‘Glass Onion’ with Rian Johnson’s director’s commentary

Rian Johnson is blessing us with a director's commentary for 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' that will take us deeper into the story.

Rian Johnson‘s Knives Out films have been lauded by critics and audiences alike due to their compelling storytelling and charismatic casting. Both films were a triumphant return to the whodunnit genre, and now fans can get an in-depth look into the creation of the latest film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, with a director’s commentary.

Johnson has already spoken at length about his decision-making when it comes to the films in interviews and podcasts, but here is a special treat for fans. The director’s commentary for Glass Onion is coming to Netflix, it was revealed on Twitter today. The tweet aptly referenced one of the lines from the film said by Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), “I keep returning, in my mind, to the Glass Onion…”

This commentary will allow fans to hear firsthand from Johnson as he talks about his thought process scene by scene, likely including some rather interesting facts and anecdotes from the making of the film. He may even point out easter eggs that went unnoticed when we were watching it ourselves, as is often the way with these mystery dramas.

Director’s commentaries fell off in popularity with the rise of streaming, given that they were often found as bonus sections on DVDs — you know, those old-fashioned silver circles that many under the age of 13 have likely never come across. With streaming having risen in popularity to the extent that it is many people’s sole go-to source for movies and TV shows, director’s commentaries have almost disappeared, though Netflix has tried it before on a few select occasions.

Glass Onion is the perfect film to add a director’s commentary for though; given its complexity and the number of references made that many audience members will have not picked up on, it will be interesting to hear from its creator himself as he points them all out to us.

Glass Onion: Director’s Commentary will be available to watch from Feb. 23, at 10am PT.
