Ryan Reynolds has secured his next big project, with him set to star in a boy band themed comedy with one of his most frequent collaborators.
One of the last Hollywood movie stars in an age of franchises, Reynolds has been a rare case of someone capable of taking mostly nothing films and injecting them with some charisma — not to mention making them profitable. Even when his films are turgid like Green Lantern, he powers through a lot of the drudgery.
Now he’s got another project lined up which will likely be his next film after Deadpool 3, as he joins the cast Boy Band to be directed by Shawn Levy. The film is currently in the works at Paramount, with Reynolds producing and cowriting alongside Jesse Andrews.
Details are scarce surrounding the project, although The Hollywood Reporter’s sources indicate the film will follow a boyband reunion a la Backstreet Boys or N*Sync, because backstreet’s back, alright? This isn’t the Deadpool actor’s first rodeo in the world of musical roles, with him starring in Apple original film Spirited, a retelling of A Christmas Carol (but without the Muppets, unfortunately).
Reynolds underwent a brief break from acting after 2021, following several years of back-to-back productions and being roped into the all-conquering, never-ending Marvel Cinematic Universe after the acquisition of Fox by Disney. He’s almost certain to maintain as the merc with a mouth for Avengers: Secret Wars, but still has time in between for perhaps more interesting roles.
Deadpool 1 and 2 are both available to stream on Disney Plus.
