Tom Holland back in the rumor mill as insider claims his ‘Spider-Man’ return could be near

It's apparently happening this year.

Tom Holland’s return as Spider-Man might be much closer than anyone initially anticipated, following an insider report suggesting he’ll be suiting up in 2023 yet again as the webhead.

Holland has now played Peter Parker more times than any other actor, following appearances in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, and his own trilogy of films. His next time in the suit could be as soon as the end of 2023, with insider Jeff Sneider reporting he’ll appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The already stacked cast for Across the Spider-Verse has seen reports of over 100 different variations of the webslinger, with Sneider reporting on the Hot Mic podcast Holland will make his way into the film. However it won’t be as Holland in an animated form a la the Marvel What If…? series, instead he’ll be in live-action.

Sneider talks of how Miles Morales will briefly cross into live-action and be a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-style animated character interacting with actual living people. Holland, he believes, will appear here but his role is likely nothing more than a quick cameo. Where exactly this fits in with Holland’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t too clear, but does paint a picture of him returning long term for another trilogy.

Across the Spider-Verse was delayed from an original 2022 release to 2023, with a threequel already in the works to wrap up the Morales story. Several spin-offs have entered the early stages of production, including a Spider-Man Noir film and a female-centric one.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to hit cinemas June 2, 2023.
