Will Grogu ever speak in ‘The Mandalorian?’

Now through April, audiences who subscribe to Disney Plus are being treated to another part of The Mandalorian story. Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin is back, Grogu/Baby Yoda/The Child has returned and brought his baby babbling along with him and now, some fans are wondering just when the character will end up being able to speak to people, and if he ever will.

The answer to if this will occur is a complicated one. To be clear, Grogu has shown he possesses average intelligence, can commune with other Jedi through the force, and appears to understand the Star Wars version of English known as Galactic Basic. The biggest problem with finding the answer is as he is also a member of Yoda’s species, not much is known about how they age due to George Lucas wanting at least one aspect of his franchise to remain a mystery. We do know Yoda began training Jedi around the age of 100 thanks to dialogue in one of the movies and a tie-in publication clarifying different things about various characters, so, with this in mind and knowing Grogu is about 50 in the series so far, we could see him talking before it reaches its future end.

Though, if it does happen, don’t expect him to sound like Yoda. Apparently, this is unique to that character alone. He talks how he does as a way to honor a former master and others like him such as Yaddle do their own thing in their appearances as of right now.

Those involved with the show do not appear to have addressed this question as of this article’s filing, but, among fans there is some hope he will get to talk and others believe he already can, but, the trauma of his collective experiences to date have effectively made him mute. This IS a thing which can and does happen to kids in our reality and those who treat it recommend not rushing those who are dealing with the difficulty to return to being conversational and ultimately focus on having some fun with them.

Arguably, Djarin is doing this already with the adventures the father and his adoptive son are having. So, stay tuned! The third season of the show will have eight episodes. They are going to air Wednesdays on Disney Plus through to the season finale on April 19, and, as so much of Star Wars is looking to the past, episode one has already called back to an infamous earlier movie villain.
