‘FIRE DONKEY KONG’ is trending but fortunately, it’s not what it seems

Don't worry, Donkey Kong will not be removed in the film.

The Mario fandom has lost its mind on social media after the final trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie was released, and it has something to do with Donkey Kong. And at first glance, it may look like this is the end for this Nintendo character.

The phrase “FIRE DONKEY KONG” trended on Twitter, hours after the trailer’s release. Perhaps people got sick of Seth Rogen playing the character and want him out of the film. After all, it was reported back in 2021 that he’s going to star in a solo Donkey Kong film. Are people outraged that this character will also have a prominent role in the film?

Fortunately, that’s not the case at all. In fact, it’s the opposite. The third trailer, featured Donkey Kong receiving the fire flower power-up, transforming him into “Fire Donkey Kong.” You know, like “fire Mario” when Mario receives the power-up. This popular ape in the Mushroom Kingdom received a new look that might not have been featured in the Mario canon as he and Mario traverse together doing action-packed stunts.

If the film teased that Donkey Kong will receive power-ups in the film, perhaps we might see different variations of our favorite Mushroom Kingdom characters as they go on this epic adventure.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to come out on April 5, 2023.
