Latest Fantasy News: The Halo Bearers aren’t giving up on ‘Warrior Nun’ as ‘Honor Among Thieves’ gets the sequel talk ahead of its official debut

'Honor Among Thieves' is going to be exactly what you need, and there's Nun you can do about it.

Honor Among Thieves is undeniably the heavy hitter of the week, as fantasy fans look ahead to the film’s theatrical debut in just a few short days.

The Dungeons & Dragons film is the latest in a long line of attempts to bring the ever-popular tabletop game to live-action, and it looks like the first to actually do it right. The film is so popular, in fact, that talks of a sequel are already cropping up, ahead of the film’s release to theaters. It’s also just the film the world needs right now, according to star Chris Pine, as we face down global pandemics, corrupt leadership, and devastating natural disasters.

It might even be enough to satisfy the burned Warrior Nun fandom — for a few hours at least. The Halo Bearers continue to put in a real, concentrated effort to see the Netflix fantasy offering return for a third season, regardless of which platform picks it up — but to no avail. Despite a lack of progress, the campaign is still going strong, and showrunner Simon Barry is throwing his full support behind its ongoing efforts.

It’s been months since Netflix canceled Warrior Nun, and each day that passes without a renewal lessens the show’s chances more. Fans are desperate to see the fantasy series return for a third season, but they’ll need a streamer — Netflix or an alternative — to pick the series up for that to happen. Thus far, months of tireless campaigning have yielded little more than some press attention and plenty of inter-community hype, and some people are starting to lose hope.

But not Simon Barry, the show’s former showrunner and an adamant supporter of the ongoing efforts to see Warrior Nun return. He noted, in a recent tweet, that — should the show get picked back up — it will be due to fan efforts, and urged supporters to keep soldiering on.

The Honor Among Thieves directors are already eying a sequel

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the writing/directing duo behind the upcoming D&D film Honor Among Thieves, are already optimistically considering the possibility of a sequel. The film isn’t quite in theaters yet, but that’s not stopping the duo from pondering what a sequel might look like. We’re still far off from any confirmation of another chapter in the Chris Pine-helmed (franchise?), but early reviews indicate that audiences will be hungry for plenty more adventures.

There’s an argument to be made for serious, dramatic, and even cynical storytelling in films, but there’s no denying how exhausting some elements of modern filmmaking have become. Chris Pine seems determined to see Honor Among Thieves veer far from these emotionally distressing tendencies, instead heaping high praise on the film’s “sweet” nature. He noted, in a recent interview, that his upcoming D&D flick is “genuine” and aims to “make people feel better.”
