Let the detractors of remake culture scoff at Disney all they want; in the wake of Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s hacky campaign of horror films based on children’s stories, including Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, the mere news of Peter Pan & Wendy should be nothing but a breath of fresh air even for Disney’s most burnt-out customers. Of course, thanks to this brand-new trailer for the Disney Plus exclusive film, it’s safe to say that Peter Pan & Wendy would be one to tune into even without a creatively-void alternative in its shadow.
Indeed, it may be yet another remake of a beloved Disney classic, but Peter Pan & Wendy has more than enough shiny new pieces to set itself apart from the pack, including what looks to be an inch-perfect turn from Jude Law as Captain Hook, and an inspiring feature film debut from Alexander Molony, who portrays the titular Peter Pan with all the cheeky gusto one would expect from the character.
Given that Peter Pan & Wendy won’t be hitting theaters, it bears the unfathomably unique trait of being a remake that didn’t have the box office at the forefront of its mind; we may be getting a bit too excited here, but perhaps that indicates an emphasis on creative liberty that brings a whole new depth to the Peter Pan story.
Also joining Law and Molony are Ever Anderson, who will star opposite Molony as Wendy, along with Alan Tudyk as Wendy’s father George, Yara Shahidi (Black-ish) as the everpresent Tinker Bell, and Jim Gaffigan as Mr. Smee, Captain Hook’s first mate.
Peter Pan & Wendy will release to Disney Plus on April 28.
