Twitter has confirmed once more that all accounts that were verified using the legacy program will have their checkmarks removed, but it seems like these threats didn’t phase celebrities. In fact, they’re looking forward to it, especially Catwoman actress Halle Berry.
After Twitter announced that unpaid legacy checkmarks will be removed on April 20, 2023, Berry shared her excitement to join the rest of the unverified users on the platform. And it’s not just her, either. Other celebrities and journalists replied to Berry’s post, claiming that they will be joining her once their checkmarks are gone.
Multiple celebrities have come out to say that they’re not interested to pay Elon Musk $8 just so they can continue to be verified on Twitter. The Super Mario Bros. Movie star, Jack Black has expressed embarrassment for Twitter and claimed that it might be cooler to not have the checkmark.
Twitter has made multiple announcements about the removal of Twitter’s verification badge and that the only way to obtain the blue checkmark is through Twitter Blue subscriptions. The date of the removal of the legacy blue badge constantly kept changing. The last time Twitter announced this removal was back in late March, when it said that April 1 would be the date when the company plans to strip them from accounts.
To entice users to pay for the badge, the company made changes that made it confusing to determine if the user was a verified legacy user or a Twitter Blue subscriber, and that those unverified will no longer be able to participate in Twitter polls.
Hopefully, this announcement isn’t just another bluff made by the Twitter CEO.
