‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ is getting its first post-release patch, and not a moment too soon

If you don’t want Star Wars Jedi: Survivor‘s bug-riddled launch version tarnishing your playthrough any further, make sure to get the first post-release patch that will arrive on next-gen consoles tomorrow.

The next chapter in Cal’s adventure in the galaxy far, far away is an improvement on almost every aspect of the original, barring the technical front. While the first game also suffered from a number of performance issues on consoles and PC, Survivor takes this to a whole new level and essentially makes the unpatched version unplayable for most Windows customers. Console players aren’t faring much better, though according to the reviews, Survivor is more stable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Respawn Entertainment angered a lot of folks by offering a backhanded apology, but to their credit, the developer is hard at work patching up this messy release, and their first update is headed to your queued downloads list tomorrow.

The PC version is also receiving a patch today that will supposedly improve performance “for non-raytraced rendering.” The console update coming tomorrow is already available on Steam, but Respawn has highlighted the list of fixes in their announcement:

  • Multiple crashes fixed across PlayStation and Xbox Series X|S and various areas of the game.
  • Fixed crashes that were tied to skipping cinematics.
  • Performance improvements across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Fixed an issue with dynamic cloth inside the Mantis.
  • Fixed various rendering issues.
  • Fixed an issue with registered Nekko colors not saving.
  • Fixed an issue with registered Nekko disappearing from the stable.
  • Fixed issues with cinematic dialogue overlapping.
  • Fixed various collision issues.
  • Fixed an issue with enemy AI remaining in T Pose during photo mode.
  • Fixed a freeze that occasionally occurred while talking to Doma.
  • Fixed a bug where the BD-oil VFX did not properly render.
  • Fixed an issue where players were getting stuck inside the Chamber of Duality if you didn’t save after leaving the chamber and die.

While this will give Survivor a much-needed overhaul, it still doesn’t address all the problems that plague the experience at the moment, especially on PC. As a lot of fans have pointed out, even the most extremely high-end rigs can’t get the frame rate above 60 in most areas, and FPS drops and stutters are common throughout the game.

In any event, while there’s no denying that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a great game, we’d hold off on playing it in its current state. At least until Respawn can address the majority of these issues with more patches and fixes in the upcoming weeks.
