MCU enthusiasts contemplate what the WGA strike means for future projects

Will Marvel see even more delays now?

With the Writers Guild of America officially going on strike as of midnight, Marvel fans are undoubtedly curious as to what this may mean for their beloved superhero franchise. While there hasn’t been a strike in well over a decade, this new development could lead to a slowdown in how quickly the Big Mouse is able to churn out its most profitable projects.

The author of a thread on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit, u/eagc7, was quick to point out to his fellow Redditors that the WGA strike is likely going to cause some delays to hotly anticipated Marvel projects, whether they have a release date or not.

Comments on the thread speculate that while projects that are either close to being released or just about shooting will probably be unaffected by the strike, thinking that titles slated for release both this year and next such as Secret Invasion, Loki season 2, and Deadpool 3 are unlikely to be pushed back much, if at all. However, those that are a little further down the pipeline – such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – might not end up being so lucky, although that film is probably facing enough problems of its own, no thanks to Jonathan Majors’ misdeeds

Whether or not these projects end up seeing delays or not, respondents seemed to be in agreement on one thing; the minds behind them deserve to be paid fairly, with one commenter astutely pointing out that “there are no good movies without competent writers.” After all, if their compensation doesn’t incentivize them to make high-quality creative works, why wouldn’t they just phone it in?

You may remember the last time the WGA went on a strike of this magnitude, it led to some significant delays and shortened television seasons of some of the biggest fan-favorite projects of the time. If you’re curious for more details on why this strike has transpired, and what it means for the entertainment industry, we’ve got a deep dive for you right here
