All it takes is a sketch for ‘The Flash’ rumors to kick into overdrive

Did Andrés Muschietti spoil his own movie?

Normally, fans and moviegoers tend to urge each other to not give in to false information based on a highly anticipated movie in order to avoid disappointment. But what happens if a suspected rumor was uttered by the film’s director? Tell that to the DC fandom when a highly speculated character in The Flash universe was hinted at on social media.

DC director, Andrés “Andy” Muschietti, shared a sketch on Instagram, which he simply captioned “Flashdoodle.” This illustration has successfully hyped up the DC fandom into believing that the director has hinted towards the potential big bad for the upcoming superhero blockbuster.

Fans on r/DC_Cinematic have identified the character featured in the sketch as “Reverse-Flash.” In the Flashpoint comic events, he is the story’s main antagonist, and is using his powers to prevent the formation of the Justice League. He also taunts Barry Allen with his knowledge of the speed force and time travel before he was defeated by Batman.

Fans were convinced that this DC villain will return in the upcoming DC blockbuster. However, others believe that there is no way that Muschietti will spoil his own movie via an Instagram post without any repercussions from Warner Bros and DC Studios. But then again, whenever DC does a Flashpoint story, whether it’s through the comics or TV shows, Reverse-Flash is always there. So basically, it’s not really a spoiler if the character is expected to be there based on the original source material.

At the moment, nothing in the official cast list on IMDb mentions a Reverse-Flash or Eobard Thawne. But if the upcoming DC blockbuster is based on the comic event with some characters teaming up, just like in the comics, then expect this Flash nemesis to appear somewhere in the film.

DC’s The Flash will be running its way to theaters on June 16, 2023.
