The Megalodon comes for an unsuspecting victim

It’s taken just 8 seconds for ‘Meg 2: The Trench’ to state its case for movie of the year

Absolutely outstanding!

One might be quick to lump The Meg and its upcoming sequel, Meg 2: The Trench into the B-movie or “so bad it’s good” bucket. After all, it’s Jason Statham engaging in fisticuffs with sharks. What’s not to love? What better reason is there to switch your brain off after a long day of work? Well, hold your horses – because just eight seconds of footage have us, and a lot of others, sold that it’s at the very least a nominee for Best Visual Effects at next year’s Academy Awards.

As you saw, A T-Rex is chilling on a beach in a movie about giant sharks, because, reasons. It’s settling down to enjoy a course of alligator, perhaps crocodile for lunch. But wait! The aforementioned giant shark arrives on the scene and chomps down on both croc and dino. Bravo, five stars – John Wick who? What’s an Avatar?

Of course, this riveting footage comes from the freshly-released trailer for Meg 2: The Trench, which will see Jason Statham reprising his role as the giant shark-bashing aficionado; “who-cares-what-his-character’s-name is.” It’s Jonas. This big dinosaur-eviscerating moment was very much teased and alluded to at CinemaCon late last month, but now that we’ve seen it for ourselves – we simply can’t wait to get back in on the dumb fun.

If you’re looking for other silly murderous animal flicks to fill your time between now and Meg 2’s release date on Aug. 4, you’re in luck, it’s been a great year for it. May we remind you that Cocaine Bear still exists, and it landed on Peacock last month.
