Even on the picket lines, Christopher Nolan refuses to change his signature outfit

Even on picket lines, he refuses to budge.

It’s safe to assume that Christopher Nolan, the director whose films have earned billions of dollars at the box office, will always wear his trademark dark blazer, light-blue collared shirt, tan slacks, and black boots, no matter the occasion.

So it is no surprise that the British-American filmmaker, famed for his intricate narrative in Hollywood blockbusters like The Dark Knight and Interstellar, was seen on the picket line during the writer’s strike outside Paramount Pictures, dressed in his usual attire. The older Nolan is depicted in a dark blazer and light blue shirt, holding a “Writers Guild of America on strike!” placard, accompanied by his younger brother, screenwriter, producer, director, and novelist Jonathan Nolan.

In an interview with The Guardian, Michael Caine, who plays a scientist in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, thus appearing in his sixth consecutive film with the director, recalled how, upon first meeting the multi-award-winning director (Nolan has received five Academy Award nominations, five BAFTA Awards, and six Golden Globes), he assumed the young, blonde man at his door was a messenger. “I asked him once, ‘is that vodka in there?’ and he said, ‘no, tea’. He’ll drink it all day. He’s made all these millions of dollars but he lives exactly the same way. Likewise, he still has the same watch he always had, still wears the same clothes,” Caine added.

Nolan’s clothing is instantly recognizable, and it’s become a signature of his that everyone associates with his work. In an interview with The New York Times, Nolan explained that he always wears the same thing because he despises deciding what to wear daily. He stressed that he needed to be free of distractions to get his work done.

So it’s fantastic to see that Christopher Nolan continues to let his work speak for itself, even as the two brothers protest outside Paramount Pictures for better compensation and working conditions for writers.
