‘The Little Mermaid’ releases preview for one of the film’s iconic songs

Disney must have a lot of confidence in their movie, sharing a clip from one of the film's most iconic songs.

Just a few weeks remain until Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid is released. To get people excited about the upcoming movie, Disney released a clip that featured an iconic song from the film’s soundtrack. This clip is such a tease that you have to wonder what the complete version would look like.

Entertainment Tonight shared an exclusive that featured Ariel (played by Halle Bailey) and Sebastian (played by Daveed Diggs) talking before the music for ‘Under the Sea’ starts to play. From there, we got to see Diggs perform the first verse and chorus of the song, whilst getting a glimpse of this iconic Disney performance.

‘Under the Sea’ is known for its colorful performance as well as for its lyrics and music. Not to mention, the song won Best Original Song at the 62nd Academy Awards and 47th Golden Globes. Disney must have a lot of confidence showing this clip knowing the accolades the original received.

Unfortunately, opinion was divided, with critics claiming that “there’s no color” compared to the original. But then again, this is just the start of the performance. Most of the vibrancy appears during the final parts of the song. Fans will have to wait until the film’s release if they want to see the full live-action performance.

Disney has been showcasing official teasers for songs that will be performed in this upcoming film. Just recently, Disney released clips for ‘Part of Your World’ and ‘Kiss the Girl’ and how they try to recreate the magic of the original animation in this live-action adaptation.

People who attended the film’s worldwide premiere claimed that the film captured the nostalgia of the original animation and gave numerous positive reviews. At the same time, the original Ariel voice actress shared her confidence in the film’s success. So perhaps using the film’s iconic songs is Disney’s strategy to convince moviegoers that this adaptation is faithful to the original.

The Little Mermaid will swim its way to theaters on June 26, 2023.
