Where is ‘It Ends with Us’ filming?

They won't be using the same location from the book.

Filming is officially underway for It Ends with Us, the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book of the same name. Blake Lively was seen on set Monday, with her usual blonde locks dyed red for the part. She appears opposite Justin Baldoni, who is also the film’s director.

It Ends with Us was a massive hit in 2016, earning the accolade of being a New York Times bestseller, and its popularity hasn’t waned thanks to the likes of “BookTok”. It continues to shift a staggering amount of copies and with the highly anticipated sequel, It Starts with Us, released last year people just can’t seem to get enough of Hoover’s stories right now.

The novel follows Lily Bloom, a college graduate from a small town who relocates to Boston with the dream of opening a flower shop; with a name like Lily Bloom would you expect anything less? In Boston she meets neurosurgeon and love interest, Ryle Kincaid (played by Baldoni). Things get complicated when a figure from Lily’s past is brought into the equation. The book focuses on themes of abuse and childhood trauma within the story, which has caused some to take issue with Hoover’s depictions of abuse and toxic relationships.

The film’s cast were recently spotted shooting scenes on the set in New Jersey. Filming for the project actually kicked off last week in Hoboken, NJ. According to Jersey Digs, several blocks of Bloomfield Street were cordoned off and filled with crews working on the project. There are further shoots planned in the area with two weeks of filming planned in Hackensack, followed by production moving out to shoot in locations across Morris County. It seems the majority of filming will take place in various parts of NJ.

As stated above, the events in the book actually don’t take place in New Jersey, but rather Boston, Massachusetts. It’s unclear right now whether the location will be changed for the film or if NJ will be presented as if it is Boston; as long as they get some establishing shots of some landmarks the filming could take place pretty much anywhere and no one would be any the wiser.

There currently isn’t a release date in place for the upcoming film, but judging by the fact that it is just filming now it’s likely we will see a release later next year at the earliest.
