Warning: Spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #26 to follow.
We’re not quite sure who invented the tactical bullet to the foot, but we feel confident in saying that Marvel has popularized the practice in record time.
For those of you not in the know, Marvel Comics recently revealed its bold decision to kill off Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel) in the upcoming 26th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, written by Zeb Wells (who, curiously enough, also has a writing credit on The Marvels). Of course, if “bold” amounts to murdering a barrier-breaking heroine that hasn’t even been around for a decade, maybe we’d prefer a dull world.
But there’s one opinion above all that the internet is dying to hear, and it’s that of Iman Vellani, the talent behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s iteration of Ms. Marvel; considering the actress’ much-noted love for all things Marvel, to say nothing of the not-unreasonable speculation that comics Kamala was killed off in order to revive her as a character more in line with her MCU counterpart, we’re sure Vellani’s burner accounts have been busy.
Of course, if the rumors are true and comics Kamala does get brought back as a mutant with a brand new, MCU-esque powerset, we could understand why Vellani may have wanted to keep her mouth shut on this matter.
Whatever Vellani thinks of this infinitely questionable route, the jury seems to be in with everyone else.
Of course, if Marvel Comics is in fact looking to blur the line it shares with the MCU, that might not be an entirely bad thing; a Wong/Madisynn television show would never happen in spite of fan demand, but a comic book run would be entirely doable. Perhaps Marvel is onto something after all, even if it came out of the gate with a heinous misfire.
The Marvels will release to theaters on Nov. 10.
