What role does Brendan Fraser play in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon?’

The answer: One nasty dude.

The Brenaissance may have hit its peak when Brendan Fraser fulfilled the prophecy with a Best Actor win at this year’s Oscars for his role in The Whale, but the Fraser train is showing no signs of slowing down, with the actor due to shore up the ranks of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, the recent trailer of which may very well have foreshadowed Scorsese’s greatest work yet.

The film — based on David Grann’s non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI — stars Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jesse Plemons, and follows the story of J. Edgar Hoover’s investigative team as they attempt to uncover the gruesome conspiracy behind a series of murders inflicted upon the Osage Native American tribe.

DiCaprio and De Niro lead the charge as Ernest Burkhart and villain William Hale, respectively, but what, or who, is Fraser bringing to the Flower Moon table?

Who does Brendan Fraser play in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon?’

Brendan Fraser will portray W. S. Hamilton, a fictionalized version of one of the real-life lawyers employed by William Hale, the mastermind of the Osage murders (known colloquially as the “Reign of Terror”), to prevent his nephew Ernest Burkhart from testifying against him. In other news, Fraser’s real-life teddy bear energy won’t be anywhere to be seen in Killers of the Flower Moon.

The other three lawyers enlisted by Hale — S. P. Freeling, J. I. Howard, and J. M. Springer — don’t appear to be among the cast, so it’s entirely possible that Fraser might end up embodying the essence of all four lawyers; that’s a lot of apathetic gumption for one man to channel.

Killers of the Flower Moon will release to select cinemas on October 6 before receiving a wider release on October 20. It will be released on Apple TV Plus on a yet undisclosed date.
