‘That’s all I have to say. You will see’: ‘Fast X’ director Louis Leterrier dishes on major surprises still left for the franchise

Everything is on the table.

Fast X has officially roared into theaters, and, to paraphrase a certain would-be Sorcerer Supreme, the Fast saga is in the endgame now. Indeed, with all signs pointing to Fast X being the first of a three-part finale to the mainline franchise, Vin Diesel and company have quite the playground to tie up their remaining loose ends, to say nothing of the plot points (or as close to plot points as a Fast film is capable of housing) that were cracked wide open in Fast X.

Without spoiling anything, the first entry in this supposed three-parter came out of the gates swinging with all the gumption you’d expect. And, while the franchise may have reached a point where even its most heartfelt scenes have some trouble being taken seriously, its true ethos, that of high-octane fun and self-aware stupidity, gels perfectly with its penchant for fan service, and Fast X is rife with it.

And according to director Louis Leterrier, we’ve only scratched the surface. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Leterrier teased that the Fast X trilogy will be showing its receipts as the ultimate culmination of the Fast franchise; not a single character is going to be left behind.

“The thing with this one is we’re nearing the end. We’ve been very open about it that this is the end of the road and we’re near the end. So there’s no character that is not talked about or mentioned. Everybody in this franchise, literally, as you saw, is mentioned or seen. Just to tell you, that’s just the beginning. You will see. That’s all I have to say. You will see.”

Of course, this shouldn’t be any surprise to the Fast fans who are caught up with the latest entry; Dom still has a long, long way to go in his latest plight, and he’s going to need all the help he can get as the severity of his problems threaten to rival the nonsense factor of the Fast franchise, and we reckon that, when it comes along, there will be no shortage of cheers in cinemas everywhere.

Fast X is now playing in theaters.
