‘Fast X’ unintentionally calls Dom Toretto’s commitment to family into question

Perhaps the boldest accusation in all of fiction.

With Fast X making its theatrical rounds now, it’s as clear as ever that we didn’t need an eleventh film in this meaty franchise to remind us what these movies are all about; namely chrome-plated scoffs at the laws of physics, plots that turn playing something straight into an Olympic sport, and, of course, the importance of family.

And with all the memes that have come about thanks to that last point, one might think it blasphemous to suggest that Dominic Toretto, the protagonist of the Fast franchise, has anything but family at the top of his list of priorities, but if a couple of eagle-eyed folks on r/fastandfurious are to be believed, Dom’s determination for not getting caught has taken on a whole new meaning thanks to Fast X.

Granted, one might not need the sharpest eyes to notice that Little B, Dom’s son, has performed quite the ethnicity gymnastics routine ever since he first showed up in The Fate of the Furious, but that could only ever pile the skepticism onto Dom’s fatherhood status, to say nothing of his loyalty to Letty.

Of course, there are much more plausible explanations than Dom putting his family values in jeopardy, such as a multiverse or a special aging magic system.

Then again, it might also be worth noting that Little B’s dubious and dynamic ethnicity is one of the few nuances in these films that could realistically be backed up by science.

Whatever the case may be, protecting Little B on all fronts goes far beyond Dom’s commitment to family; if Vin Diesel’s coy behavior regarding the franchise’s future ends up being an omen for life after Fast X, it won’t be any surprise if we see Little B take the reins from his father by the time Fast 15 rolls up.

Fast X is now playing in theaters.
