James Gunn has high praise for a DC veteran massively responsible for ‘The Flash’ and its rave reactions

No one anchored the movie quite like them.

The presence of Ezra Miller may negate this quite a bit, but The Flash has a lot going for it; between Sasha Calle’s alleged scene-stealing turn as Supergirl, Michael Shannon’s return as the fan favorite General Zod, and James Gunn himself naming it his favorite movie of the year so far, this catalyst of the DC Extended Universe just might pack the punch it’s been promising.

Shannon, Miller, and Michael Keaton aren’t the only DC veterans that are part of this meaty comic book film. Indeed, there’s one comparatively unsung party involved whose importance towers above her aforementioned coworkers, and Gunn has taken to Twitter to reinforce the praise for her.

The party in question is none other than Christina Hodson, who masterminded the screenplay of The Flash, and who Gunn was all too happy to pile the acclaim upon. The Flash is Hodson’s second DC project in a row, her most recent prior writing duty being Birds of Prey, and with Gunn having added her to his DC Universe writers’ room, we’ll be seeing plenty more top-notch cape shenanigans from Hodson’s brain.

Gunn’s praise is especially timely given the ongoing WGA writers’ strike, now in the middle of its fourth week of picketing. It goes without saying that a bad script will almost always lead to a bad movie, and, in case the AMPTP isn’t aware of this, non-professional writers will most likely give you a bad script. The Flash is lucky to have gotten through the pre-production pipeline before the strike hit, otherwise we may have missed out on Hodson’s enriching talent that, frankly, is mostly responsible for the high-flying praise the film has gotten so far.

The Flash is due in theaters on June 16.
