Who is Pep Guardiola? ‘Ted Lasso’ season 3 cameo explained

Guardiola may not the Special One, but he's certainly one of the best in his field.

Over the course of its three seasons, Ted Lasso has gotten viewers used to seeing familiar faces on the screen. After all, in a TV show heavily focused on European football, it would be disappointing if sports aficionados didn’t get some well-deserved cameos from time to time. Thankfully, Ted Lasso delivers. Arlo White, Gary Lineker, Thierry Henry, and Ian Wright have all made appearances in the show, and now, with the current season almost over, it was time for Pep Guardiola to join in on the fun.

In season 3, episode 11, “Mom City,” Guardiola made a surprise appearance that made most football fans stand up from their seats. Granted, the man had already been mentioned by name in the series, but nothing beats the real deal. On the other hand, those who only watch Ted Lasso for the vibes, without knowing a whole lot about the sports aspect of it, might be confused about what the big deal is. Rest assured, though, you’re about to find out.

Who is Pep Guardiola?

Pep Guardiola used to be a football player before he retired from the field in order to become a team manager. Currently, at 52 years of age, he is one of the best-known football managers in the world and is working under the Manchester City Football Club.

As a player, Guardiola dedicated the better part of his career to Futbol Club Barcelona, winning the UEFA Champions League Cup while playing for the team in 1992. After that, he managed Barcelona’s B team for four seasons before working under Bayern Munich, where he stayed between 2013 and 2016. It was only after leaving the club that Guardiola became the Manchester City manager, where he will stay for the foreseeable future.

Ted Lasso is available for streaming on Apple TV Plus.
