Box office predictions: Perhaps ‘The Flash’ isn’t the savior DC desperately needs

Things could change once 'The Flash' releases.

With the amount of praise and huge crowds The Flash enjoyed during its early screenings, you would think the film would become DC’s saving grace. Unfortunately, early predictions showed that this upcoming DC blockbuster may have some struggles at the box office.

According to Hollywood Reporter, it was predicted that DC’s The Flash could earn around $70 million during its domestic opening. While that is a lot of money, it’s just $3 million above Black Adam‘s domestic performance, which was $67 million. At the projection is higher than what Shazam! Fury of the Gods ended up pulled, which was a meager $30 million. Looking even further back, 2017’s Justice League earned $93.8 million during its opening, and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice earned $166 million.

It is also important to know that these numbers could change, especially from what was seen during advanced screenings for the superhero blockbuster.

The good news, however, is that these predictions could beat Disney’s Elementals, that’s going to be released a day before the DC blockbuster. It was predicted that this Disney flick could earn $50 million during its domestic opening. In comparison to other Disney films, 2007’s Ratatouille earned $47 million and 2012’s Wreck-it-Ralph earned $49 million during its domestic opening.

The Flash received massive crowds during its limited theatrical run, with lines reportedly hitting outside the theater. Meanwhile, the film received a ton of praise after its world premiere in CinemaCon, even if it wasn’t the complete product. People claimed, including Stephen King, that The Flash is the best DC superhero film to date and that they enjoyed Ezra Miller’s performance of the two Barrys.

The Flash will be dashing its way to theaters on June 16, 2023.
