The film stars Halle Bailey as Princess Ariel, who wants to visit the “above world” and learn more about humans. According to the film’s director, Rob Marshall, the film took inspiration from the late 80s animated film and the original folklore, so it will be interesting to see how those two different tales work in a live-action setting.
