‘Star Wars’ fans are praying the latest ‘Ahsoka’ rumors are true

One fan-favorite character might be making their way to live-action.

A new rumor has Star Wars fans, and especially Clone Wars fans – more excited than ever about Ahsoka. Though currently unconfirmed, a supposed insider has claimed that Captain Rex – clone commander and close friend of Anakin Skywalker – will be in Ahsoka, and he’ll be played by Temuera Morrison.

The rumor is traced back to One Take News, which has claimed that multiple sources have confirmed the information to the site. If the rumor is true, Morrison portrayal of the character isn’t a shocking turn of events, as he portrays all adult clones within live-action Star Wars projects (Daniel Logan has also been known to portray a younger version of the character, though his involvement with the character in recent years has been minimal). After appearing as the bounty hunter Boba Fett in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the actor also made a small cameo as an unnamed, homeless clone in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The character is one that fans have yearned to see in both Ahsoka and other projects. Though he’d be a fairly old man by that point, the character could feasibly be alive – and his past with Ahsoka, which is extensively chronicled in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, is a deep and emotional one.

Fans have had hope that Ahsoka and Captain Rex would share the live-action screen for quite a while. Rex and Ahsoka have been separated at numerous points in their lives, which has both uncertain about the other’s fate. Whenever the two reunite, it always appears that their bond is as strong as ever. Dawson and Morrison are certain to be central figures in Star Wars‘ immediate future, as well, as many fans feel that Disney has clearly taken special interest in promoting their appearances, which has further fanned speculation about a potential live-action interaction between the two.

If this rumor is true, Captain Rex is only the latest animated character to be adapted into live-action. Although Freddie Prinze Jr. confirmed he won’t be returning as Kanan Jarrus, several Star Wars: Rebels characters have been confirmed to appear in Ahsoka, including Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall in animation, Mary Elizabeth Winstead in live-action), Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar in animation, Natasha Liu Bordizzo in live-action), and Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray in animation, Eman Esfandi in live-action). Another character, Zeb Orrelios, is portrayed in both animation and live-action by Steve Blum. Zeb made his live-action debut in a cameo during season 3 of The Mandalorian.
