Netflix’s bone-crunching new action movie puts its lethal skills to the test on the Top 10 in 89 countries

Netflix users left on the edge of their seats by yet another hard-hitting actioner.

It’s not exactly revelatory to state that Netflix’s original action thrillers easily count among the streaming service’s most consistently popular avenues, but the instantaneous success of Mother’s Day has still come out of the blue given its unassuming origins, at least compared to some of the platform’s other exclusive and explosive creations.

While it hasn’t quite managed to dislodge the similarly-matriarchal The Mother from the overall number one spot – which is no shame when the Jennifer Lopez-fronted shoot ’em up boasts a bigger star and a much bigger budget – the hard-hitting Polish film has debuted as the second most-watched movie on Netflix’s global charts after commandeering a Top 10 spot in 89 countries around the world, per FlixPatrol.

Directed by Mateusz Rakowicz, Agnieszka Grochowska headlines as Nina, a former special operations agent for NATO trying to live a quiet life in hiding after her career secured her a reputation as one of the deadliest covert killers on the planet. However, when she discovers her son has been kidnapped by a gang of criminals, she’s left with no other choice but to dust off her particular set of deadly skills and go full Liam Neeson on their asses, only to find out she’s enjoying getting back into the swing of things more than she’d ever thought possible.

Yes, it’s effectively the latest in a never-ending line of Taken clones, but bullets and bodies are about as surefire a success on Netflix as just about anything that doesn’t have Adam Sandler in the lead role, so the production line is going to keep rolling on.
