Speaking to ET Online at the premiere for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts the actor revealed that he is close friends with Megan and her fiancé Machine Gun Kelly. When asked whether he spoke to the former Transformers star to get some advice on the role, Davidson said that he had chatted to Fox and that she was happy about it.

“When I told Colson and Megan, they laughed, they were like, ‘That’s sick.’ They were really stoked.”

Fox appeared in the first two Michael Bay Transformers movies alongside her controversial co-star Shia LaBeouf. This was before she had a very public feud with the director, which led to the actress dropping out of subsequent movies. Although it seems that the franchise has moved on from both the original cast and crew and so has Fox as she has given Pete her blessing.

Davidson plays the charismatic Autobot known as Mirage. Whilst some hardcore Transformers fans were somewhat skeptical of the casting choice at first, many have faith in the comedian to deliver with this role.

The film opened up to audiences with its worldwide premiere earlier this week and the general reaction so far is that it’s pretty good, offering basically what you’d expect from a Transformers film. When the movie gets its general release, fans will be able to make up their own minds regarding Davidson’s performance.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set to hit theaters across the US on June 9.
