The massive Marvel machine has made a number of lesser-known people into bigger names through the years. Actor Chris Hemsworth is one, and, while some directors like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino disagree about the star power in the franchise being better than the characters, Hemsworth is dismissing this and says he is a bit hurt by comments the pair have made.
The 39-year-old gives his view in a new article published by GQ. At the beginning of the report, he says he has been sick of being Thor every couple of years before, has been enjoying recent downtime and, when it comes to the comments from the creators (they have been talked about so often online, we will not re-share them here), he feels like they do not like what he has to offer people.
“That’s super depressing. There goes two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me. I’m thankful that I have been a part of something that kept people in cinemas. Now, whether or not those films were to the detriment of other films, I don’t know. I don’t love when we start scrutinizing each other when there’s so much fragility in the business and in this space of the arts. I say that less to the directors who made those comments, who are all, by the way, still my heroes, and in a heartbeat I would leap to work with them. But I say it more to the broader opinion. I don’t think any of us have the answer.”
Later in the report, Hemsworth adds that friends of his children picked apart Thor: Love and Thunder after seeing it and felt there was too much humor. As well, he says when it comes to life these days, learning about his predisposition for Alzheimer’s put a lot into perspective — and so did fellow Marvel star Jeremy Renner’s accident a few months ago where he was run over by a runaway plow.
“I think anything like that, it’s an immediate realization of ‘wow, any of us can go at any minute.’ We’re getting to the age now where we’re going to start losing people we love.”
For now, though, Hemsworth is sticking around. His upcoming work includes Extraction 2, Furiosa, Transformers One as a younger Optimus Prime and, while he may not get a call from Scorsese or Tarantino any time soon, there is always the chance Francis Ford Coppola (who has expressed a love for Deadpool) could pick up the phone and see what the pair can craft together.
