Ben Affleck’s Batman is not the only character from the Snyderverse who will make an appearance in DC’s upcoming blockbuster, The Flash. Another hero from DC’s Justice League will also show up, and no, it’s not Henry Cavill’s Superman. Oddly enough, not everyone was happy with how this hero was depicted. Warning: major spoilers ahead.

Leaked footage of the upcoming DC superhero movie has been circulating on social media, featuring both Ezra Miller‘s Barry Allen and Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman. Unlike previous appearances from this Atlantean superhero, who is generally seen as a tough guy who enjoys occasional drinks and is more than capable of holding his liquor, this version depicted him as a drunken mess.

In the video, Aquaman is heavily intoxicated, to the point of being unable to stand up on his two feet, and ends up falling down in a puddle for comedic effect. Barry offers Aquaman a place on his couch, reminding him that he doesn’t live far away. However, Aquaman insists on staying in the puddle.

This leaked video has sparked a debate about whether Aquaman was accurately portrayed as a “drunken mess” in the DCU. We don’t think this portrayal aligns with the Aquaman we know from Justice League and the Aquaman movie. However, people argued that Aquaman had the potential to be this drunk based on his previous drinking habits and it’s only now that we got to witness the reality of Aquaman’s habit with alcohol.

Personally, I still see the character as someone who can handle their liquor, despite the heavy drinking because they’re half-human. But what do I know about Atlantean genetics? Or even Aquaman’s biological makeup? While he is part human and part Atlantean, perhaps his digestive system is more similar to humans. Who knows?

Regardless, many argue that this cameo is disrespectful to Momoa’s character. It doesn’t matter if previous films and appearances showed him as a heavy alcoholic. He is still a tough guy who deserves respect. Perhaps Warner Bros Discovery and DC Studios will make amends for this divisive depiction of the iconic Justice League character in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, set to release in late 2023.

For now, we’ll have to brace ourselves for a drunk Aquaman when The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023.
