Arkane Studios looks set to live up to both the potential of the game and their promise to make it perfect for each platform. In the latest Bethesda Blog, some of Dishonored‘s UI elements and PC specific customisation options have been revealed, and there are a lot of them.

This isn’t simply a case of HUD on/off. As shown in the screenshots below, you can choose whether or not to display certain individual UI elements such as health gauges and grenade indicators. You can change the style of your crosshair, its opacity or even just its movement speed. Almost every aspect of Dishonored seems to be customisable in some way, and that is indicative of a level of care that few developers can boast.

The PC-specific “shortcut” bar is also shown. Appearing briefly when you use one of your shortcut keys (1-10 by default), this bar gives you “a more familiar interface to select your powers and gadgets.” One doesn’t have to use it if they don’t want, the standard quick access wheel that we have seen in some of the videos is only a “mouse wheel click” away and controllers are also fully supported.

As well as the options you can see in the screenshots below, the post also revealed the following UI customisations:

  • The FOV slider for changing your field of view.
  • Controller and mouse sensitivity options, as well as four different options related to auto aim strength and aim assist.
  • The mouse smoothing/acceleration slider and enable/disable options. (PC only).
  • Graphics options for the full spectrum of monitor resolutions, anti-aliasing, and various other graphical toggles. (PC only).

Games that show due diligence to their platforms are something that we need to encourage and support. Everything I had seen about the game up until this point had intrigued me, but this is the news that has almost certainly cemented my visit to Victorian London.
