‘Hair’ star Treat Williams dead at 71

Williams' untimely death has sent a wave of sadness over fans today.

Hair and Everwood star Treat Williams, who breathed life into some of the most emotionally charged and soul-baring characters in entertainment, passed away at age 71 after a motorcycle accident on June 12. The news of his untimely passing has left an immediate impact on fans worldwide who followed his career for decades.

Williams was a staple of the industry since the 1970s, namely his role as George Berger in Hair in 1979 and following roles like Daniel Ciello in Prince of the City, the profoundly beloved Dr. Andrew ‘Andy’ Brown in Everwood, and most recently the highly likable Mick O’Brien in Chesapeake Shores.

Barry McPherson, William’s longtime agent, shared the following statement regarding his death, as reported by People:

“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”

Fans and co-stars within the industry have begun sharing messages of love and condolences for Williams after the devastating news. Author Don Winslow calls Williams a good man.

Tennis legend Chrissie Evert said that her heart “feels very heavy” following the news of his death, something we can all relate to.

We may not have known Williams personally, but enjoying a variety of characters from the actor over the last several decades has been a treat for pop culture fans worldwide. In addition to becoming familiar with his characters, getting to follow him on social media and see a glimpse into his day-to-day life is something his devoted audience won’t ever forget.

We’re sending our thoughts to Williams’ loved ones in this difficult time. May we all remember him for his lasting contributions to entertainment and the roles that touched our hearts.
