It’s a glorious day for ‘The Little Mermaid’ fans as Disney Junior receives a new animated Ariel series

It's for the kids, after all.

Fresh on the heels of Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid beautifully swimming in the hearts and minds of younger children across the land, it looks as though the adventures of our favorite mermaid are only set to continue. In doing so, Disney Branded Television has capitalized on the movie’s growing success by announcing a brand-new animated series for Disney Junior.

As per Variety, the announcement was made during the Annecy Animation Festival, where it was confirmed that the show would be presented with the title Disney Junior’s Ariel. The upcoming series, which is set to arrive on Disney platforms next year, marks a perfect opportunity for young kids to set off on a journey with young Ariel as she explores the ocean with her trusted friends.

Despite its notable detractors, Disney Junior is hoping to utilize the series as a charming piece of television that engages preschoolers and presents young Ariel with a “powerful voice.” To add on, viewers of all ages will join Ariel as she explores crystal caverns and hidden treasures, all while relying on the help of fan-favorites Sebastian and Flounder.

And being that The Little Mermaid landscape has long been a major attraction for children, it certainly comes as no major surprise that Disney Branded Television is looking to recreate the live-action’s apparent success in TV form. But while this news is undoubtedly exciting, little ones will unfortunately have to wait for a while, with Disney Junior’s Ariel arriving sometime in 2024.
