Ben Affleck mysteriously left out of ‘The Flash’ credits, and James Gunn naturally takes the blame

Conspiracy theorists, assemble!

The DCU has been no stranger to a conspiracy theory or two throughout its existence, and the latest one is a doozy even by the franchise’s standards. To be fair, it’s based on an interestingly curious question, but claiming that James Gunn intentionally omitted Ben Affleck from the credits of The Flash doesn’t hold much water at all.

Even though the canonical Caped Crusader makes his final appearance as Bruce Wayne in the madcap multiversal adventure – and has been featured prominently in virtually all of the marketing materials – a lot of audience members have noticed that his name is nowhere to be found when the cast is listed once the story draws to a close.

There could realistically be many reasons why, but one of the most entertaining is that co-CEO Gunn deliberately kept Affleck out of the roll-call after he revealed in an interview that he had no intention of directing a DC project under the new regime.

Of course, there are two sides to every argument, but no amount of reasonable minds will be able to convince the anti-Gunn mob that it would be massively unprofessional for a high-profile executive to turn something as standard as the credits to a major blockbuster into the battleground for a personal vendetta based entirely on personal rejection.

Maybe Affleck didn’t want to be in the credits due to the fleeting nature of his contributions to The Flash, but we’d go out on a limb and say it wasn’t done because Gunn is salty the two-time Academy Award winner so publicly shunned his overtures.
