As you can imagine, spoilers ahoy for The Flash.
More so than any other genre, superhero cinema is beset by leaks that spoil the biggest surprises well ahead of time, making it increasingly difficult to go into any major comic book adaptation completely unsullied. Obviously, The Flash is no exception, but director Andy Muschietti’s dismay over one cameo in particular doesn’t hold much water.
Everybody knew there were going to be surprises in store from the Scarlet Speedster’s long-awaited debut solo movie, and while there are a handful of shocks that remain intact for first-time audiences who’ve been diligently avoiding the myriad of guest stars, Muschietti was the one who came right out and revealed to the world that Nicolas Cage would be showing up as Superman.
From there, it was treated as fair game to grab headlines all over the internet when the man behind the camera had put it out there into the world, but the filmmaker admitted on The Discourse podcast that he wasn’t best pleased when the news went public.
“No, well, that was a leak, unfortunately. Yeah, I would’ve never. I would’ve never. It was a leak unfortunately, but didn’t seem to affect much. Of course, I would’ve loved that to be a surprise, but the truth is that the movie has a lot of surprises apart from the Nic Cage thing.”
Not to state the obvious, but if he didn’t want the world to know that Nicolas Cage was in The Flash, then maybe he should have kept his mouth shut? If the outlet in question ran with the story, then it wasn’t said off the record or in violation of an NDA, so there was no reason why such a groundbreaking revelation wouldn’t have been revealed as soon as possible..
