One of the exceedingly rare Netflix action movies that doesn’t suck obliterates the #1 spot in 87 nations

It's about time, too.

Netflix makes a lot of action movies, but the majority of them – at least the ones hailing from the United States and backed by the might of Hollywood, anyway – aren’t anything to write home about. In fact, the majority of them end up getting resoundingly trashed by critics, which makes Extraction 2 a breath of fresh air in more ways than one.

The pressure was piled high on the broad and bulky shoulders of Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave from the beginning, after the opening installment became the streaming service’s most-watched original movie of all-time after exploding out of the blocks in April of 2020 and winning everybody over with its no-frills badassery.

This time, the scope and scale have been raised accordingly – as has the budget – and the end result is nothing short of spectacular. On Rotten Tomatoes, Extraction 2 holds a critical approval rating of 74 percent and an audience score of 90 percent, something that’s virtually unheard of for a Netflix-produced runner and gunner, never mind a sequel.

Seeing Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake shoot, stab, punch, kick, and generally bludgeon his enemies in any fashion he sees fit is must-see viewing, it would seem, especially after FlixPatrol revealed the second chapter in the nascent franchise to have debuted as the number one most-watched movie in a mighty 87 countries around the world.

At this rate, Extraction 3 will be officially confirmed in no time at all, and the numbers dictate that audiences everywhere are fully on board with as much Rake as they can handle.
