Gal Gadot says goodbye to Wonder Woman in a hail of bullets in new ‘Heart of Stone’ trailer

Look out, Ethan Hunt; Rachel Stone has arrived.

Following The Flash officially rebooting the DC universe, it’s currently unclear if Gal Gadot will be invited back as Wonder Woman in the franchise’s future. Although the Israeli actress made her impact on the action movie genre in the Fast Saga, long before she donned her Themysciran tiara for the first time, Diana Prince is undoubtedly her most iconic role to date. And yet she might just be about to add another one to her belt, if Netflix has anything to say about it.

At Saturday’s TUDUM event, the streamer unveiled the blood-pumping new trailer for Heart of Stone, an action-packed spy thriller with Gadot at its center. The Justice League star plays Rachel Stone, an international intelligence agent working for the peacekeeping organization Charter who is tasked with keeping a dangerous MacGuffin called “The Heart” out of enemy hands.

Netflix has made no secret of the fact that it’s hoping to start a new franchise here, with eyes on making Rachel Stone a female equivalent to the likes of James Bond, Ethan Hunt and Jason Bourne. Director Tom Harper is certainly confident that the character can go toe-to-toe with her more famous masculine counterparts, and from the heart-pounding action glimpsed in this trailer, he might be right about that.

Of course, some quarters of the internet tend to see a female action stars as the spawns of Satan, but with any luck Heart of Stone will avoid any sexist social media backlash or review-bombing once it starts streaming this Aug. 11. If Netflix plays its cards right, Gal Gadot might have another stone-cold classic on her hands.
