With production starting up in New York, today we have some new casting announcements for Ned Benson‘s double feature, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers, starring Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy.
Screen Daily reports that Viola Davis, Isabelle Huppert, comedian Bill Hader, Ciarin Hinds, Chastain’s best friend Jess Weixler and Nina Arianda have all joined the film.
Chastain has confirmed the casting of Weixler and provided photos of herself on set with McAvoy and Weixler, which can be seen below. She also stated that Huppert’s casting isn’t 100% confirmed as of yet. It has also been confirmed that William Hurt will in fact be part of the film and that Nina Arianda will play the couple’s thearapist.
For those unfamiliar with the project, the two films follow the “love story between a New York City couple during a difficult time in their marriage, from the different perspective of the husband, Conor Ludlow (McAvoy), a restaurant owner, and of the wife Elenaor Rigby (Chastain), who goes back to college.”
The films are said to be stand alone films, each from the perspective of one of the two main characters. However, when combined, they give a “more complete look at these characters and their lives.”
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby looks like an incredibly interesting and original idea, with an amazing cast. It may not hold much mainstream appeal but I, for one, am dying to see how it turns out.
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and Hers stars James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis, Bill Hader, Ciarin Hinds, Jess Weixler and Nina Arianda, and will be released in 2013.
