‘He has a thing with the female characters in the MCU’: Samuel L. Jackson points out an overlooked Nick Fury dynamic

Secret Invasion star Samuel L. Jackson shared a hot take on a fascinating aspect Nick Fury that’s flown under the radar; namely, his special connection with the women of the MCU.

In an interview with ScreenRant, the honorary Academy Award winner analyzed how Fury relates to his female colleagues in general, and Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Coleman) in particular:

“When you see [Fury and Falsworth], and they see each other, they have a comfortability that’s different from…The only relationship I would think of that comes anywhere near that is with Maria Hill and sometimes with Natasha. He has a thing with the female characters in the MCU that he doesn’t have with the guys.”

Is Jackson be implying that Commander Fury is a female ally? The actor explained that there is something about women that resonates with him:

“He’s much closer with all the female people.”

His unique bond with the women of the MCU raises thought-provoking questions about the relationship dynamics he may have shared with his late mother, Katherine, and how their relationship might influence how he bonds with his formidable female colleagues.

While information about Katherine Fury is scarce, in the Earth-616 timeline, she was married to his father, Jack Fury, and passed away during the Depression. MCU fans caught fleeting mentions of Katherine in the comic books Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos, The Marvel Spotlight on Spider-Woman, Marvels, and The Marvels. 

Jackson’s exceptional powers of observation are part of what makes him such a brilliant actor. Undoubtedly, being a seasoned girl dad to his daughter Zoe, 31, may also influence his point of view and help him discern the subtle queues of a character who is secure in who he is and quietly abides by the lost code of conducting himself like a gentleman.
