‘He’s doing well’: John Boyega has finally talked to Jamie Foxx

We're happy to hear it!

Last week, John Boyega said he had been calling Jamie Foxx to check up on him after his health troubles, but the actor had yet to pick up his calls. At the L.A. premiere of their new film, They Cloned Tyrone, on Tuesday, Boyega revealed he had finally talked to his co-star.

“I’m going to keep calling,” Boyega told ET at the American Black Film Festival on June 14, adding that “no one,” presumably referring to the cast of the sci-fi film, had heard from the Ray actor yet. It looks like Foxx got the message and finally picked up the phone to chat with his castmate.

“He finally picked up the phone. Thank you, bro,” Boyega told People last night, adding that “he’s doing well,” and that everyone is eager to see him return. The Star Wars alum was happy to be able to give his well-wishes directly to Foxx and stressed the importance of privacy and patience. “We love you, bro,” he concluded.

Foxx has been out of the spotlight ever since suffering an undisclosed medical emergency on April 11, on the set of a film he was shooting with Cameron Diaz called Back in Action. Speculation has been rampant on the nature and causes of his condition, but his family has kept information to a minimum. Foxx’s daughter, Corinne, has been the source for most of the updates, with the last being that her father was at home recovering and was even playing “pickleball.” Friends and family have also been spotted visiting a rehab facility.

They Cloned Tyrone, starring Foxx, Boyega, and Marvel’s Teyonah Parris, comes out on Netflix July 21.
