We’re days away from the cinematic bow of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and franchise fans all over the world are gearing up for what’s hopefully a worthy farewell to one of the greatest action heroes of all time. The reviews may indicate a lukewarm-at-best end for Harrison Ford’s iconic adventurer, but if there was ever a summer blockbuster in which the fan reactions should be taken more seriously than those of the critics, it’s Dial of Destiny; the battle, then, rages on.
At the very least, we know that Dial of Destiny has nearly all the right puzzle pieces to see Indy off; John Rhys-Davies and Karen Allen reprise their iconic roles of Sallah and Marion Ravenwood in the film, respectively, and the fedora-clad legend will mark his retirement in the most fitting way by going up against Nazis once again. Indeed, Dial of Destiny is shaping up to be quintessential Indiana Jones.
Of course, not every legacy character was roped back in for Indy’s swansong, and with respect to that, there will be a very large, gaping hole where some fan-favorite Temple of Doom representation might have been in another life.
Will Short Round be in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny?
Short Round, Indy’s plucky sidekick played by Ke Huy Quan in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, will not appear in Dial of Destiny; there was unfortunately only so much room for so many characters in the film, and given that Dial of Destiny started filming before Quan found his way back into the spotlight, Short Round sadly wasn’t even considered.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will swing into theaters on June 30.
