‘It was glorious’: ‘Dial of Destiny’ star thrilled to punch Indiana Jones in the face

That's what joining the franchise is all about, right?

We’re less than 24 hours away from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s rousing theatrical debut, and franchise fans in particular will be in for the treat of a lifetime; as the longest intallment to date, this is one escapade where audiences can plug in and go along for the ride like never before.

Indeed, it’s nothing but Jones for Indy’s swansong; between Sallah, Marion Ravenwood, Nazi-punching, and a proper, closing character arc for the main man himself, the stage is set to leave the film’s lukewarm critical status in the dust when the fans make their voices heard.

There’s plenty of new material for viewers to chew on as well, none quite as prominent as Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Helena Shaw, the goddaughter of the titular explorer and easily one of the film’s biggest x-factors, tormenting our hero wherever he needs it and seemingly being the culprit behind the inciting incident, and many after.

To play in the Indiana Jones sandbox as fruitfully as Waller-Bridge seems to have done is a dream come true for many, but for the Fleabag star, the peak of it all was getting to clobber her godfather square in the chin, according to a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s such a brilliant cut, and it’s such an excellently scripted moment. And particularly because there’s so much fighting and left hooks and all that stuff all the way through the film, when she’s just fighting the bad guys. But to have to level a punch to the hero of the film… It was glorious, because it was so funny.”

It’s quite fitting that Shaw ends up punching Indy in the face, as her character seems to metaphorically punch him in the face for a fair bit of the running time ; leave it to Indy’s cheekiest-ever sidekick to rile him up for adventure when he needs it the most.
